Over the past few months, I’ve been editing Absolution hard. It helps that I joined Reedsy, and their platform is amazing for writers. It is true that you should tuck away your manuscript and let it be before you begin editing.
I have found spots that do not work like I thought they would years ago, and others I wanted to expand. And another thing I have done is not to make the bad parts of my former marriage go away or to pretty them up. I spoke with my kiddo, and they were fine with it. Plus, who the hell cares? Who am I protecting? This novel began as an escape from my marriage, and now that I am almost 8 years into my relationship with J, I no longer feel the need to pretend. J knows me inside and out — the good, the bad, and the ugly.
Cassie was unfaithful in her marriage, and they know what they did was wrong, no matter their reasons for doing that; I am the same. I don’t want my readers to immediately hate Josh and love Cassie. I want them to see my characters as real people, dealing with real-life challenges. Only one character is evil — Marshall. And no, no real person inspired him.
My cover artist (J) and I have met to finalize the series cover art. And everything is updated on Amazon…all that is needed is my manuscript.
Michael’s background and story have been expanded, and so has Colin’s. I’ve also decided to add more mystery to other characters. These characters need to be more than 2D in the series.
One huge issue I may run into is how I write. If you have read my blog, you know I love a good em dash and ellipses. However, now it reads like AI did the writing. It also doesn’t help that more people criticize writers for how they write, but don’t get into the arts if you can’t take criticism.
I will be focusing on expanding my Social Media presence and devote time to promotion.
Until next time…
